CFI: Locked and Loaded

Ok, so it's a done deal. Six people are going to the CFI conference: Charlene L., Marq V., Sam J., Eric T., me and Amber. If you snoozed, you loozed, sorry. I'll have a full report, of course, on the goings-on there when we return. I'll be contacting the six of you with flight information tomorrow, but you need to plan to fly out Friday morning if possible, so that we can get there and settle in and get lots of drunk philosophizing rest.

Obviously, if any of you are in the Buffalo/Amherst area, you can stop in that weekend.

**PS: I just found out that Amherst is only 30 mins from Niagra Falls, so I'm sure we'll be visiting there during our trip! **

CFI Trip -- Finalizing Plans

Okay, so those of you who have contacted me about the CFI student leadership conference need to download this form [1st page only; don't worry about the 2nd page -- the travel grant] and fill it out and contact me ASAP with your intent to attend. I am assuming that all of you cannot go if your travel grant is not made available. Make sure you reference AAFSA at UF in the organization line.

Now, after I hear from you, I will be contacting the CFI travel grant coordinator and finding out how many of you can go. If it's everybody, then GREAT! If not, then I have to make a hard choice. Priority will be given first to officers, then to anyone who has attended at least one meeting, then by the first reply to me when the intial email was sent out.

Once I figure out how many people are going, I will contact you and you can then submit the form in one of the three following ways:

1) Print it out, fill it out, and fax it to 716-636-1733, ATTN: Thomas Donnelly
2) Print it out, fill it out, and scan it in as a JPEG or Adobe file, then email it to tdonnelly@centerforinquiry.net
3) If you can't do 1 or 2...Print it out, fill it out, and bring it by CLB (Chemistry Lab Building -- NOT Chemistry Research Building), room 409 -- my lab. If I'm not in there, leave it on my desk, or put it in the cardboard box on the floor just outside my door if the door is locked. [you will probably want to put it in an envelope if this last option] I will probably fax it for you. Try to do 1 or 2 yourself if possible.

So far, I and Amber plan to go, and I have had the following people express interest:
Jess (VP), Ben N., Marc V., Stacey K., Sam J., Eric T.

...Potentially 8 people.

The situation is simple: they will be able to provide airfare for at least some of those wanting to go, if not all. The cost is $35 and includes: "admission to conference sessions, two nights lodging,
two dinners, and three luncheons." Thus, very little money will be required of those who can get a travel grant. I simply don't know yet how many of you will be able to get one [I need a final count in the group first], but I will know as soon as you get back to me, and then I hear back from CFI.

If you're going to go, you need to agree to attend at least some (preferably 50%) of the events, since they're booting the airfare. Check out the schedule here.

SOOOOooo...please print out THIS FORM, fill it out, and notify me of you intent to attend ASAP. If you have questions or concerns, my phone numbers are available through my Facebook profile, just add me as a friend to see them.

Again, I need to know post-haste. This weekend is going to be the last opportunity to notify me, and I'll fax everything in as soon as I know something, after talking to the travel grant person Monday.

Damn, No Drinkin' This Weekend

Alright guys, the gig is up! Since I was baptized Southern Baptist, and since just this past week they passed a resolution preventing those within the SB denomination from drinking, I guess I'm done. Also, note that Condi came and delivered a real soul-searcher at the convention...about the need for moral leadership.

A hat tip to, and details can be found at, Pandagon.

Should we celebrate this as a victory for the irreligious? After all, I'm sure the SB just lost a few million servants! ;)
[the resolution]...not only expressed opposition to the drinking of alcohol but also stipulated that no one who does so may be elected to serve with any entity of the denomination.

CFI - On Campus: Student Leadership Conference 2006

I spoke with someone at CFI yesterday (she actually called me), and she assured me that travel grants (paid flights) to the 2006 Summer Leadership Conference were guaranteed for a few of our members. It's July 14-16, so you'd only miss that Friday's course and the weekend's work. Plus, it would be possible to get a later flight if you needed to come after school on Friday.

I don't know how many of you would want to go, or can, but if you are interested, leave a comment here on the blog, or email me. I need to know ASAP. Check out the details.

Meeting 4: Saturday June 3rd 7 PM - Social

Tomorrow night, 7 PM, Hops restaurant. Be there or be square. If you need to reach me, officer cell #'s can be found from Facebook.

I considered trying to get a party room, but I think the size of the group won't be a problem.

Since no one put any suggestions forward, other than Napolitanos for the party room, I had to just pick one. I am always cognizant that the majority of the group are students, who live [hopefully] somewhat closer to campus. With that in mind, I have to consider Tower a bit far out, since the bus schedule sucks, and traffic is a bitch west of the mall (I would know, every day).

Looking forward to it. Bring someone! We always have a good time, and good talk.
