Updated Flyers and Designs

Big props to Adam C. for updating our flyers and images. You can view all our graphics here.

In particular, he updated Davy's originals:
  1. Ad1 - Atheist
  2. Ad2 - Freethinker
  3. Ad3 - Agnostic
  4. Ad4 - Naturalism
  5. Ad5 - Ascent of Man Banner
  6. Ad6 - Business card
I'm going to make two suggestions for the future -- stealing a popular couple of lines from CFI's materials:
  • "You've got answers? We've got questions!"
That would be great to incorporate on some of our existing backgrounds: I think the former would go great on Ad4 above, or Davy's older Ad5.1.
  • "Doubt: for your toughest claims; won't fade the truth."
This one has its own graphic that we could perhaps modify some.

I'd love some feedback on these --
  • What do you think of our empty set logo on those? Think it's okay to stay?
  • What about the cross in the guy's hand in the "ascent of man" banner? I vote to remove it, I think Brandon S. was right about it all along.
In other news...we're planning to meet some time this summer, but don't have a date just yet. I was thinking a movie night / party at the prez's place (or elsewhere). I'll keep you posted.

Some of you may have noticed the site upgrades; I worked on the website template and updated it to the new widget-style blogger code.

I wanted to invite anyone and everyone with some web know-how to have some input on the formatting of our webpage. You can make modifications to our template, then email it to me to try. Then, I will capture screen shots of the various designs and we'll set up a post where people can view them and vote on their favorite template.

If you don't know how to do any of this stuff, you probably shouldn't bother asking me -- I'm a novice at this.

Here is the current template.

Take part in GF with your creative input (like Adam today). It's much appreciated! Any and all suggestions are welcome.

Soliciting Essays, Transcripts and Feedback

I got a couple of ideas from the older groups. Read on...

1) On AASA 2002 webpage on grove, I noted the page for essays there, and I wanted to solicit any writings pertinent to atheism/agnosticism/freethought from our members to post here. I can't seem to get many (read: any) of you to submit posts to this site as contributors, so perhaps if you've already written something that would be of interest to the group you'd consider submitting it to me. I can either convert it to an .htm and link to it (as below), or I can enter it as a blog post here for you.

Any essay you wrote for a class dealing with issues of ethics or religion would likely be worth showcasing. I will wait until we have accumulated a couple of them to make a post -- "Member Essays" -- where I will list them and link to them, but in the interim, check out these old ones to inspire you to add yours to the collection.
  1. Morality and Religion (by Colin Lee)
  2. A Short Essay On The Problem of Evil (by Andy Chiocca)
Please submit something if you have a good essay!

2) I noted the forums page on the old HASA site. Does anyone think this is an idea worth pursuing, or do the Facebook discussion boards provide us with this function already? I was thinking the latter, but I'm willing to upload a php bboard if people want it and think we'll use it more than the Facebook discussion board.

3) I found a partial transcript of a Dan Barker - Richard Howe debate that was held on-campus by the UF HASA group in 1997. I would love to get Dan back, or someone else, to do another debate such as this for our campus-wide events this fall. Our last event was Eddie Tabash giving a lecture, and we hope to have a debate next time. Anyway, my idea/question was whether anyone wanted to type up a transcript from the Tabash-Friel debate, the Tabash lecture, or from Prof. Witmer's interview on Unchained Radio (.mp3 source file). Basically I'm just putting this out there and letting you know that doing any of these would be fantastic, and we'd put them up here on the site.
