We're meeting this Saturday (21st) at 1 pm in CLB 414 to hear Prof. Tresan talk about justification for objective morality. (meetings page)
Two things on the ballot:
We will do this in a democratic fashion, but the officers have a little authority over occasional visitors. If you have a name suggestion, please leave a comment below, email or Facebook message me, and I'll add it to the list of consideration. I'll then keep a running tally of votes for each suggestion. Here are three suggestions to get started:
Second thing:
The empty set was never meant to be permanent. Just like the name, our banner design needs to be simple but tied to our identity at UF. Obviously, we will need to incorporate the new name, so leave off the text, make up 3 different ones with the 3 different names, or put in a generic, "Group Name Here" in your design. Here is the old one:

I will showcase these here on the blog also and we will vote on them. For some inspiration, check out Dave Misvel's earlier work: banner, handouts, (all).
Again, we need to hurry on both of these issues. See you all Saturday.

- Changing the name of the group

Here are three suggestions to get started:
- Gator Freethought (my favorite) ---VOTES: 9---*
- Freethought UF ---VOTES: 0---
- Gator Secular Humanists (GaSH would be a kind of neat acronym) ---VOTES: 0---
- Converse ---VOTES: 1---**
- Why ---VOTES: 0---
- The Doubting Club ---VOTES: 0---
- Freethinking Gators ---VOTES: 1---***
- Gator Atheists & Agnostics ---VOTES: 1---***
Second thing:
- Designing a nice banner / logo

I vote for Gator Freethought, the acronym can be GFT.
ReplyDeleteI also like Gator Freethought.
ReplyDeleteThat's my vote.

I would rather retain the words Atheist and Agnostic in the name. "Freethought" seems too general (just in case this group was meant to be about religious -or rather non religious- thought), and can be taken for anything else (political, social, literature, ...you name it). I guess it is too late to enter new name proposals, but I would rather go for something like "Gator Atheists & Agnostics", which would more precisely define the nature of the group.
