Our first official meeting will be Wednesday, September 5th,
at 7PM.
We have NOT heard back from room reservations, so we do not
have a room officially available to us at this point. We're going to be meeting
outside Matherly 105. Michael and I will be there early. If the room is open,
that is the one we'll be using, if not, we'll snag another and leave a sign
directing people to it.
If you don't see Michael or I outside the room, but people
are inside, please double check we're in there before entering. This problem
should be resolved by the next meeting.
Our primary focus for the first meeting will be forming a
list of topics to base this semester's meetings on. We'll nominate a number of
topics for the semester, and vote for the ones we want to discuss. Topics are
not limited to religion or irreligion, so be creative.
We'll also be discussing a few events we have planned for
the semster.
In addition, depending on time, we'd like to have a warmup
discussion. The tentative topic will be "What is Freethought?" We can
explore anything having to do with this, or we can ignore the topic all
together and work on something else.
We don't have any specifics readings or information on the
topic. We'll provide a few dictionary definitions at the meeting.
See you all on Wednesday!
O.K. I'll try again. Is this group limited to current students? I am an alumnus and would like to attend. Is that permitted?
ReplyDeleteOfficially registering with the group, and being an officer of the group requires you to be a current student.
ReplyDeleteThat said, if you just want to attend and participate, I /doubt/ anyone would have a problem. I believe in the past we've had plenty of non-current student members.

Well, I made it to the first meeting and was so glad I did. First time in many years that I have been in such a setting where so many people so readily expressed themselves. Wish more classes were like that. For me personally, it was like neurological nutrition. It's just after midnight and I am still buzzed by it. Thank you very much for all your effort, it is certainly a worthwhile one. I have already marked my calendar and will try and make the next meeting. Thanks again, Peter
ReplyDeleteWell, I'm quite glad you enjoyed it! Be sure to come back for the rest of the year!

What I am looking for is a more activist oriented atheist group, one that is interested in forming a think tank to develop ways to combat religious aggression that seems to be trying to convert this nation from a democracy to a theocracy. If you know of any such group, or persons with a similar interest, would you kindly let me know? Thank you very much. innerpilot@msn.com
